Snorkeling in Aruba

Snorkeling in Aruba,  8" x 10", Acrylic on canvas panel

In May of this year, my husband and I spent a week in Aruba with two of his college buddies and their wives.  We spent one morning on a snorkeling ship.  I had no desire to snorkel.  But, I took lots of photos of the other passengers in the water.  This painting was composed from several of those photos.

Aruba is in the Caribbean Sea, about 15 miles north of the coast of Venezuela. Because of it's location, it is not in the hurricane corridor. Aruba is part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. It is a desert island. The southwest coast has white sandy beaches, and warm waters.  The northeast coast, has cacti, rough seas with treacherous currents, and a rocky coastline. Trade winds from the Atlantic keeps the climate mild. I found it extremely hot during the day, but cooler in the evening.  The capital city of Oranjestad has old world European style buildings.  Their main resource is tourism.  The islanders were very friendly.

A snorkeling trip to Aruba is a great way to spend a day, and not just for the sun and fun. Snorkeling allows you to explore the underwater world of Aruba, which is home to a wide variety of colorful and fascinating creatures. You can see Angel Fish, Sea Horses, Parrot Fish, Stingrays and many other species of fish. If you're looking for something that's a little different from the usual tourist sites, then snorkeling should be on your list of activities.
