I was experimenting with pouring thinned acrylic paint. The resulting abstract background reminded me of the oil slick leaking from the sunken USS Arizona ship, in Honolulu. It was attacked in Pearl Harbor by the Japanese during World War II.
I placed the modified Peace Symbol on top of the abstract waters. Because, I believe that, in spite of past and present conflicts all around the world and in America, peace is still possible. In the aftermath of the 1992 LA riots, Rodney King asked, “Can we all get along?”
If you zoom in on the image, you can see hand written words that relate to the idea of peace and cooperation.
